“The bookshop on the corner does the most delicious cherry pie. You really should try some.”
“The dress shop of dreams”, Menna Van Praag
It’s finally cherry season! And I’m so happy cause I wanted to try this cherry pie since I read about it in “The dress shop of dreams”, by Menna Van Praag, and I couldn’t wait anymore!
I’m almost sure that Menna Van Praag adores cherries cause she mentions this fruit so many times that it must be her favourite. I’ve read two books by her so far, and you can find cherries in both of them: pancake with a cherry topping, a chocolate cake dotted with cherries and of course loads of cherry pies! At one point in the novel she even compares them to sex:
“Sex with the Saint was like falling into a pile of enchanted dresses, like chocolate cake, cherries and cream…”

But among these recipes I’ve decided to make the cherry pie first, cause it’s something you find every time you step inside Walt’s book shop. He makes it everyday for his customers, but he actually makes it for the woman he loves:
“Since Walt rates the odds of his lips ever touching hers as less than his chances of winning the lottery, instead he bakes cherry pies so he can watch her eat.”

“On her way out she stops at the counter for a slice of cherry pie and a double espresso. She declines cream with the pie but takes four sugars with the coffee”
